KUCHING: The National Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Malaysia (NCCIM) will send a business delegation to Sarawak on March 28 to March 30, 2022.
According to NCCIM in a statement, NCCIM is a federation of five national trade associations, namely, the Associated Chinese Chambers of Commerce and Industry of Malaysia (ACCCIM), Malay Chamber of Commerce Malaysia (DPMM), Malaysian Associated Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (MAICCI), Malaysian International Chamber of Commerce and Industry (MICCI), and the Federation of Malaysian Manufacturers (FMM).
The delegation led by president NCCIM and ACCCIM Datuk Low Kian Chuan comprises of 30 persons, primarily the five vice presidents of NCCIM namely president DPMM Dr Abd Halim Husin, president MAICCI Datuk N Gobalakrishnan, president MICCI Christina Tee, president FMM Tan Seri Soh Thian Lai, and Deputy Pesident ACCCIM Datuk Ng Yih Pyng, key council members including Secretary General, Michael Chai, and Treasurer Datuk Dr A T Kumararajah and potential investors.
NCCIM said the prime objective of the visit is to enhance and further build on trade and investment relations between the business community of Peninsular Malaysia and Sarawak and to promote collaborations to drive for new heights in domestic direct investments (DDIs), especially in Sarawak.
“NCCIM strongly advocates on the strategic significance of DDIs as a catalyst of economic growth.
“There has been a slide in DDI levels in recent years; and there is an urgent need to intensify efforts to promote and encourage DDIs,” it said.
NCCIM mentioned that it is hoped the visit to Sarawak will open up the channels of mobilising the businesses of Peninsular Malaysia and Sarawak to be closer knitted and collaborated in managing the challenges in the global business arena and look forward to positive developments in new heights of collaborations of businesses from the two sides to drive towards higher level of DDIs.
“We also want to look forward efforts to enhance our competence and capacity to tap on the opportunities arising from regional comprehensive economic partnership (RCEP), including those under the Belt Road Initiative (BRI), and the Brunei Darussalam–Indonesia–Malaysia–Philippines East ASEAN Growth Area (BIMP-EAGA).
“Next we also look at the establishment of a NCCIM-SBF Platform to drive closer collaboration of businesses on the peninsular and Sarawak fronts,” it added.
NCCIM said also on the visit were representatives from MIDA led by their deputy CEO, Sivasuriyamoorthy Sundara Raja.
“NCCIM appreciates the Sarawak Business Federation (SBF – the umbrella body which represents key organizations and industries in Sarawak) as the host, and the arrangements therein for the visit.
“NCCIM is also very honoured and grateful for the engagement during the visit with Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg and Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan,” it said.
