SIBU: The state government has allocated RM884,000 to build 13 houses under the Hardcore Poor Housing Programme (PPRT) to help fire victims of Kampung Baru here.
Housing and Public Health Assistant Minister Dr Annuar Rapaee said the allocation was approved by the Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg recently.
“A total of 10 houses will be built in Kampung Jerwit; two at the original site while one other application is being processed,” said Dr Annuar who is also Nangka assemblyman when met by reporters yesterday.
Dr Annuar, who is also Education and Technological Research Assistant Minister, said two houses would be built on the original site as they were owners of the lots.
He added the Land and Survey Department had identified the names and lots approved at Kampung Jerwit and they would be given land in the form of temporary occupation licences (TOLs).
“Of the seven homes destroyed in the fire, only two lots had land titles while five houses were built on the land because most of them were relatives.
“If possible, I would like to see the construction work start within this one- or two-month period,” he stressed.
Thirteen families were left homeless after fire gutted their homes at Kampung Baru here on March 22.
