KUCHING: Home Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin today paid a courtesy call on Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg where they discussed ways to forge closer cooperation between the federal and Sarawak governments for the people’s wellbeing.
Muhyiddin said the discussion which went on smoothly, touched on various aspects, especially matters relating to his ministry.
“Although GPS (Gabungan Parti Sarawak) is not part of Pakatan Harapan (PH), he (Abang Johari) believes that Sarawak needs to have good relations with the federal government for the benefit of the people of Sarawak,” he told reporters after the discussion held at Wisma Bapa Malaysia, here.
During the discussion, Muhyiddin also touched on the Cabinet’s decision to set up another border security control post in Teluk Melano at the Malaysia-Indonesia border.
He said after the opening of the Pan Borneo Highway recently, this move was required for security, economic and other purposes.
“The Malaysian Cabinet had decided to have a new border security control post with support from the Sarawak government and Abang Johari agreed to this.
“Sarawak will assist by providing a site where a building will be constructed at the early stage. Sarawak has also been generous by allocating RM9 million (for the project), whereby RM500,000 has been given out for the preliminary works,” he said.
Muhyiddin noted that the project would be included in the 12th Malaysia Plan and a number of federal and Sarawak government agencies would be involved together, with the next move to be meticulously planned for the project to be successfully implemented.
“There has been a cross-border agreement with the Indonesian side which will be renewed with them for the benefit of both countries,” he said. – Bernama
