KUCHING: There is a need to refine the Central Database Hub (PADU) system to ensure the safety and well-being of the people, says Datuk Hanifah Hajar Taib.

While acknowledging its commendable intentions, the Deputy Minister of Economy stressed the necessity of implementing the initiative while considering feedback for further enhancement, highlighting PADU’s objective of providing targeted subsidies.

“We are concerned about the potential increase in the population in the future. For instance, in 10 years’ time, accommodating a larger population may pose challenges in terms of providing subsidies, as it would require a significant increase in funds.

“Therefore, without targeted subsidies, there’s a risk that those in genuine need may be overlooked, which is something we aim to avoid. Hence, while PADU’s intentions are noble, there’s a need for refining and optimising the system to ensure its effectiveness,” she explained.

She said this when attending the Sungkei Rami-Rami Kuching programme organised by Cats FM at Padang Merdeka here, yesterday evening (Mar 30).

When questioned about district offices advising the public against registering with PADU initially, she said it is the prerogative of Sarawakians.

“We ought to respect the people’ apprehensions and allow the Department of Statistics Malaysia (DOSM) to manage it initially.

“In terms of DOSM engaging in discussions with the Sarawak Government, the concerns have been raised and potential areas for improvement are being addressed,” she said.

The Sungkei Rami-Rami Kuching programme also witnessed Hanifah providing contributions to 41 orphans.
