TEBEDU: More funds will be needed to put up the new Immigration, Customs, Quarantine, and Security (ICQS) Complex here complete with amenities that are on par, if not better, than those available at a similar facility across the border.
Tebedu assemblyman Dr Simon Sinang Bada said the RM100 million approved by the federal government recently would be insufficient.
“We were briefed by the Immigration and Customs departments that the federal government has approved RM100 million to build a new ICQS here.
“We acknowledged that the amount is not enough and we hope the federal as well as the state government come up with a new ceiling price to increase the development allocation or provide a matching grant,” he said after the integrity roadshow programme at Tebedu Community Hall here on Thursday (March 10).
According to Simon, construction of the new complex has already begun with the clearing of the site costing RM20 million.
Compensation has been paid to the villagers for the project site, he pointed out.
Simon said the development in Tebedu should be on par with the Entikong Complex located at the other side of the border in Indonesia, next to ICQS Tebedu.
“It is hoped that we can keep pace with the development in Entikong with quite sophisticated and high-tech facilities.
“If possible we want to do more but at the very least we want the development to be on par with our neighbours,” he said.
