MUKAH: The 2021 State Budget is good nevertheless the government needs to expedite the process of improving certain infrastructure in the state particularly Internet service.
Kapitan Kang Boon Eong said under the current situation, Sarawak is still lagging behind in development as compared to Malaya, and has still a long way to catch up.
For example, he said Internet and information technology have become a way of life in the era of globalisation now, but the internet service in Sarawak was still a matter of big concern.
He added there was a higher need for better Internet service now as we embraced the new normal amid Covid-19 pandemic.
“In Mukah, there are telecommunication towers, but the Internet service was not so good even though the tower happens to be nearby our house,” he told New Sarawak Tribune on Monday (Nov 9).
He was commenting on the 2021 State Budget tabled by Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg at the State Legislative Assembly sitting in Kuching on Monday (Nov 9).
The government has proposed a RM9.832 billion budget for next year, of which RM6 billion was for development fund and RM3.832 billion for operating expenditure.
Kang, who is a businessman, said undoubtedly Sarawakians like him wanted to progress in their respective endeavours in the globalisation era now, but poor Internet service was a problem.
He hopes that the Sarawak government would look at the problems faced by the people as far as poor Internet service was concern, especially in rural areas.
