MIRI: The Lions Club of Batu Niah successfully organised the Care and Love Food Aid Programme 2024, distributing 15 packs of essential food supplies to families in need at the Morsjaya Community-Based Rehabilitation Centre (PPDK) Morsjaya, on Wednesday.
The aid packages included rice and other essential food items, aimed at providing support during Gawai.
President of the Lions Club of Batu Niah, Andy Jong Wan Joon, highlighted the programme’s goal to support diverse families in need, especially the elderly, disabled, single-parent families, and those with chronic illnesses.
This event is part of the club’s annual activities to extend help and show care to the community.
At the start of the year, the Lions Club of Batu Niah prepared 200 packs of food aid to be distributed in phases to needy communities in Batu Niah, Bekenu, and Miri.
Established in Nov 2014, PPDK Morsjaya supports 34 trainees with conditions such as Down syndrome, autism, and various physical and intellectual disabilities.
The centre’s activities include making cloth-based and resin-based handicrafts, which are sold to raise funds for PPDK Morsjaya.
The centre is currently seeking cloth donations to support its craft activities.
The distribution event was led by Jong, along with immediate past president Alice Yong Choon Tho, past president Liew Li Mui, and committee member Chong Fuong Liang.
They were warmly welcomed by PPDK Morsjaya supervisor Alcesia Ah Hoi and the centre’s teachers.
