SEREMBAN: Negeri Sembilan FC (NSFC) will need to sharpen their finishing when facing Selangor FC in the quarter-finals of the FA Cup to advance in the competition.
Even though they defeated M3 League team PIB Shah Alam FC 2-0 at the Tuanku Rahman Stadium in Paro last night to become one of the eight teams to enter the quarter-finals, NSFC head coach K. Devan said his team failed to capitalise on many opportunities to produce more goals.
“I think the tactical game is already there, but the finishing, individual skills, strikers, and players who get a chance (to score) are a bit off. We need to train better at a high intensity to be confident to score when we get the chance,” he told reporters after the match here last night.
He said sharp finishing would give his team an advantage when facing Selangor, who have a line-up of quality players.
The Red Giants squad booked their ticket to the quarterfinals in style when they demolished Sri Pahang FC 4-0 at the Petaling Jaya City Council Stadium (MBPJ), Petaling Jaya.
“They have an advantage in terms of player quality with their local players being national players. We are lacking in that aspect, but we cannot make comparisons; we will do our best in 90 minutes on the field,” Devan said.
Besides Selangor meeting Negeri Sembilan, defending champions Johor Darul Ta’zim (JDT) are scheduled to meet Penang FC, Terengganu FC will take on Kelantan FC, and Sabah FC are up against Kuala Lumpur (KL) City FC in the quarterfinal action that will take place on May 27 and 28. – BERNAMA
