Neighbour saves elderly man from fiery end

The injured victim is being treated by medical personnel from Miri hospital at the scene before they transported him to the hospital.

MIRI:  An elderly man sustained burns to his body when fire broke out and destroyed his house in Kampung Lambir on Sunday evening.

Two fire engines from Miri and Lopeng fire station were rushed to the scene after responded to an alert call at 4.36pm.

Upon arrival, the 80-year-old injured man was found by fire personnel at the scene and the enraged fire engulfed the wooden house.

According to Miri fire zone 6 chief, Supt Law Poh Kiong said, the injured victim was immediately treated by medical personnel from Miri hospital who were also despatched to the fire scene that day.

“The victim identified as Chong How Kong sustained burn injuries as he ran into the burning house to salvage some of his belongings inside,” said Law.

The good neighbour’s (right) quick action saved victim’s life.

Swift action by a neighbour known  as Tian Mong Ho, 49, managed to save the elderly man.

He was reportedly sustained 27 per cent burns to his body.

The victim was immediately transported him Miri hospital for medical treatment.

The operation ended at 5.17pm.

The fire completely destroyed the home but fire investigators have not yet determined the cause of the fire.
