KUCHING: Unity among the community was the central theme of the Mooncake Festival Gathering 2024, jointly organised by the Neighbourhood Watch Community (KRT) Tabuan Laru, KRT Tabuan Dusun, and KRT Ong Tiang Swee, here.
The festival took place at the Sarawak Society for the Blind on Sunday night (Sept 8), with Batu Lintang assemblyman See Chee How as the guest of honour.
See said the event is organised annually with some charitable homes to share the spirit of the festivity and goodwill.
“We don’t limit ourselves to just Chinese traditional festivities; we also organise different festivities from different cultures like Hari Raya and Gawai, and it’s wonderful to organise events like this to share the festivities and introduce them to the culture of different communities.
“And we also organise these kinds of activities to invite them so that they can share the joy and the festivity and understand one another better,” he said.
The chairman of KRT Tabuan Dusun, Stephen Yeo said that the function aims to promote unity.
“Unity means living together in happiness and harmony, free from racial tensions.
“So, we can continue to collaborate and organise more fellowship dinners to bring everyone closer,” he said at the gathering.
Patrick Tan, chairman of KRT Tabuan Laru, added that this gathering is to celebrate and honour the Mid-Autumn Festival tradition.
“This festival, rich in cultural heritage, symbolises unity and offers a chance to cherish our loved ones while sharing moments of joy with the entire community,” he said.
About 100 guests from the Blind Centre, Cheshire Home, Rumah Seri Kenanga, and the Society for the Deaf, representing various walks of life, gathered to celebrate the Mooncake Festival.
