KUCHING: A total of 246 5G network connectivity structures will be erected to enable the citizens to leverage and benefit from the hyper-connectivity services.

Digital Nasional Berhad’s Sabah and Sarawak general manager, Choo Meng Chung, said 587 5G network connectivity structures will be developed throughout Sarawak.

“For Kuching, a total of 246 5G network connectivity structures will be erected to enable the people to leverage and benefit from the hyper-connectivity services,” he said.

The briefing session was called by Sarawak Multimedia Authority (SMA), chaired by Kuching City South Council (MBKS) Mayor, Datuk Wee Hong Seng and attended by the MBKS Councillors and officers from all levels.

In a press statement issued on Thursday (Feb 23), during the briefing, MBKS councillors and officers were also briefed on the radiation facts, risks, and realities particularly the Radio Frequency Electromagnetic Field (RF-EMF) emitted by the telecommunication structure.

Wee hopes that Sarawak Multimedia Authority will continue and expand its outreach programme throughout Sarawak to educate the public or communities on the correct facts regarding the RF-EMF emitted by the telecommunication structures having the requisite knowledge will help in demystifying the public concerns or fears over the false allegations of potential health hazards caused by the RF-EMF from the telecommunications structure.

During the session, Wee also reminded all the Network Facility Providers (NFP) involved in the development of the telecommunication infrastructure within the Council’s jurisdiction to obtain the Wayleave Approval Letter from the Council before the commencement of any works on the approved site.

He added that the Wayleave application received from the NFP shall enable the Council to facilitate and monitor the works that will be carried out to ensure the implementation of the same item complies with the Council’s prevailing rules, procedures, and standard operating procedures for the benefits and the safety of all parties.

“The Council will not hesitate to take stern action against any party that violated the Council’s law,” he said.
