BELAGA: Residents of Long Wat and Long Malim here can now use the newly constructed bridge and 1.377km upgraded cement road.
The projects, which were completed by the Upper Rajang Development Agency (URDA) in April this year, were inaugurated by Murum assemblyman Kennedy Chukpai Ugon yesterday.
During the ceremony, Chukpai conveyed his heartfelt gratitude to the Sarawak government for the funding allocated to upgrade this timber road (Phase 1) through URDA and Regional Corridor Development Authority (RECODA) as the implementing agencies.
He also lauded the upgraded road infrastructure as it had not only improved transportation efficiency but also opened new opportunities for economic growth and development in the rural region.
“The improvements made so far have had a significant positive impact on the local community, enhancing connectivity and accessibility for rural residents in the area. The benefits of this initiative have been felt by all members of the community, and we are truly appreciative of the government’s commitment to enhancing infrastructure in rural areas.”
For the record, the project involves constructing a two-lane, single carriageway reinforced concrete bridge over Sg Lekasi, spanning 69.6m in three sections.
Additionally, it includes upgrading 1.23km of the existing access road and 0.15km of spur road to Long Malim and Long Wat to an R1 modified standard.
