KUCHING: From the state’s political and regional perspective, the new Cabinet line-up announced by Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin yesterday is a well-balanced, professional, and experienced team, according to Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) information chief Datuk Idris Buang.
He said the concept of cooperation with the federal government under the formula of Perikatan Nasional (PN) plus Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) as propounded by Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg and GPS leaders should give Sarawak a meaningful place in the nation’s trajectory into the future in all aspect of development and progress.
Idris believes that GPS and its ministers, though not part of the PN, would also serve to be the first line advocates of Sarawak rights and interest, in the formulation of national policies.
“They too would be our ‘front strikers’ to generally score vital points for Sarawak in getting optimum benefits for the Sarawak people while defending at all costs established multicultural values and harmony.
“For example, they would be the first to reject any attempt to introduce anything that is repugnant or certain to disrupt our cultural, political and social stability in Sarawak,” he opined.
As for non-GPS MPs (Saratok MP Ali Biju and Puncak Borneo MP Willie Mongin), he believes that GPS as a whole, could work with them in the future.
“With ‘Sarawak First’ as our committed motto of struggle, GPS are naturally magnanimous over those who also agree to join hand for that purpose,” he added.
Idris also extended his congratulations towards those who had been selected to form the new Cabinet.
“I am sure Sarawak and its people stand to gain with this line up. Today, is indeed a good day for us.
“Now, is the time for us to move on and for them to put out their best to serve the state and nation in accordance with the trust reposed upon them all.”
