KUCHING: Sarawak today (Oct 12) recorded 834 new Covid-19 cases, 203 fewer cases compared to the previous day’s tally (1,037).
The Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) said 821 or 98.44 percent of the new cases were in Categories 1 and 2 while 13 cases or 1.56 percent fell into Categories 3, 4 and 5.
“There were 224 cases or 26.86 percent in Category 1 (no symptoms) while Category 2 (mild symptoms) had 597 cases or 71.58 percent.
“Category 3 (lung infections) had two cases or 0.24 percent while Category 4 (lung infections and require oxygen) had six cases or 0.72 percent and Category 5 (lung infections and require ventilator) had five cases or 0.60 percent,” it said in a statement on Tuesday (Oct 12).
Of the new cases, 215 of them were recorded in Kuching; 184 in Miri; 143 in Sibu; 59 in Limbang; 55 in Bintulu; 39 in Lawas; 23 in Sri Aman; 19 each in Serian and Subis; 12 in Mukah; 11 in Samarahan and 10 in Betong.
Eight cases were reported in Kapit; six in Dalat; five each in Sarikei, Bau and Selangau; three each in Marudi and Matu; two in Tatau; one each in Lundu, Simunjan, Lubok Antu, Tanjung Manis, Kanowit. Asajaya, Telang Usan and Julau.
The committee disclosed that there were two new Covid-19 clusters, namely, the Putai 2 cluster in Bukit Mabong and the Air Awat-Awat cluster in Lawas.
“The Putai 2 cluster is a workplace cluster involving a construction project site located at the Putai area in Bukit Mabong, Kapit.
“Twenty-eight individuals including the index case were confirmed positive while 58 individuals were negative. All positive cases were referred to the Kapit Hospital and the low-risk quarantine and treatment centre (PKRC) in the Kapit district for isolation and treatment,” it said.
The Air Awat-Awat cluster is a community involving residents of the floating village at the Awat-Awat area in Lawas.
“Forty-two individuals including the index case were confirmed positive while 36 were negative. 18 new cases were reported today.
“All positive cases were referred to the PKRC and Covid-19 Assessment Centre (CAC) in the Lawas district,” added the SDMC.
