KUCHING: The Health Department has identified a new Covid-19 cluster in Serian District.
The Chupak Cluster, named after Kampung Chupak, Siburan, is a community cluster.
Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) said the index case was a 27-year-old local woman.
“She was detected through screening of symptomatic individuals on March 9. She works in the Kuching district, so she was likely infected through community infection.
“It was then spread to the case index’s family members and then individuals in Kampung Chupak through interaction and close contact.
“The result of close contact found an additional 56 individuals from Serian and Samarahan districts.”
SDMC added that 338 individuals were screened in which 57 were positive, including the case index, while 41 were negative and 240 still awaiting results.
Meanwhile, the Health Department had declared the end of the Geronggang Cluster in Sibu District after no new cases were detected in the past 28 days.
“There are still 31 active clusters in Sarawak. Of the total, six recorded new cases while the other 25 did not.”
SDMC also revealed that Tebedu District changed from green to yellow status after recording six local infections, decreasing the number of yellow districts to 15.
“Tanjung Manis District changed from yellow to orange after recording 24 local infections in the last two weeks, which increased the number of orange districts to three.
“Twelve districts are still red zones while 10 districts are green zones.”
