KUCHING: A new Covid-19 cluster named Jalan Merpati Cluster has been identified by the State Health Department.
The Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC), in a statement today, said the cluster was traced at a shopping mall at Jalan Merpati in Miri district.
“The Jalan Merpati Cluster is a workplace cluster, and the case index is a local 45-year-old woman. She was detected through screening of symptomatic individuals at Miri Hospital on Mar 7.
“She had been experiencing signs and symptoms since Mar 3. While receiving treatment, she was confirmed Covid-19 positive on Mar 7. She is a worker at the shopping mall,” said the committee.
It revealed that through contact tracing, 50 more positive cases were found.
“Of the 310 individuals who were screened, 51 cases including the case index were found positive. There were 193 individuals who were negative while 66 individuals were still waiting for results.
“All 51 cases have been referred to Miri Hospital and low-risk quarantine centre (PKPC) Miri for isolation and further treatment,” said SDMC.
As of today, there were 32 Covid-19 active clusters in the state with eight clusters reporting more cases.
“The Jalan Merpati Cluster in Miri was declared today. In Bintulu district, Tanjung Cluster had 15 new cases while Emperoh Jambu Cluster in Kuching district also had 15 new cases.
“Hill Cluster and Kiba Cluster in Sibu district had two new cases and one new case respectively. Jalan Muhibbah Cluster in Betong district and Jalan Main Bazaar Cluster in Sri Aman district recorded one new case as well,” said SDMC today.
