KUCHING: The State Health Department has declared a new Covid-19 cluster, dubbed the Jan Yong Cluster, in Kapit.
The Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC), in a statement today, said this was a new community cluster involving a longhouse in the Sungai Yong area in Kapit District.
“The index case of the cluster is Case 7,043, a local woman aged 21 who was detected via active case detection (ACD) by the Kapit Division Health Office,” it said.
It added the index case had a history of visiting a high-risk Covid-19 area in Sibu district.
“As a result of further investigations, 14 additional cases have been detected among residents of the same longhouse,” said the committee.
As of 12pm today, 46 persons had been screened. Of these, 15 cases including the index case were positive, 28 tested negative while three were still awaiting results.
“All 15 cases have been admitted to the Kapit Low-Risk Treatment Centre (PKRC) for the purpose of isolation and further treatment,” said SDMC.
With this new cluster, there are 22 active Covid-19 clusters in Sarawak as of today.
