KUCHING: The State Health Department has declared a new cluster — the Sungai Rayah Cluster — in Meradong district today (May 14).
The Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) said it is a community cluster involving a longhouse in Sungai Rayah, Bintangor.
“In this cluster, a total of 50 individuals have been screened. Results found that 13 have tested positive including the index case while 37 were tested negative.
“All of the positive cases have been referred to Sarikei Hospital and are admitted to the low-risk treatment centre in Sarikei and Meradong for the purpose of isolation and further treatment.
“The close contacts have been identified and are given quarantine orders,” the committee said.
While one new cluster was declared, the Health Department also announced the end of another cluster — the Jalan Sultan Iskandar Cluster in Bintulu.
SDMC said to date, there are still 83 active clusters in the state, of which 12 recorded a total of 65 new additional cases on Friday.
