KUCHING: A new Covid-19 cluster, dubbed the Wisma Saberkas Cluster, has been identified in Sarawak.

Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas said the addition of the newly declared cluster brings the number of active clusters in the state to six.

The other five clusters are the Bah Arnab Cluster, Baki Cluster, Greenhill Cluster and Seladah Cluster in Kuching as well as Putra Cluster in Bintulu.

“Today (Nov 2), the State Health Department would like to declare one new cluster, the Wisma Saberkas Cluster in Kuching, that involves two premises in the building.

“The case index to this cluster is case 884 that was confirmed to be Covid-19 positive on Oct 26. All three cases are workplace contacts that underwent screening after the 884th case was confirmed positive on Nov 1,” he said during the State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) press conference on Covid-19 update at the Old State Legislative Assembly (DUN) Building here on Monday (Nov 2).

One of the cases is a local man, an employee of case 884, who showed symptoms of coughing and body aches.

The other two cases are local men who are employees at a branch of the same company here. All three cases have a history of meeting with case 884 on Oct 27 to Oct 29.

Following the report, seven cases that involved the cluster were detected —one of them is the premises owner and the other six workers.

As of 12pm last Sunday (Nov 1), 112 contacts to this case have been screened during Active Case Detection (ACD).

“This brings the total number of cases in the Wisma Saberkas Cluster to a total of eight cases including the index,” he said.
