MIRI: The ongoing construction of the city’s second crematorium facilities is set to be completed in eight months’ time.
Located in Lambir Chinese cemetery here, the construction works on the RM3 million worth of facilities have commenced since October this year.
“Once completed, it will help cater to Miri’s growing and diverse population,” said Minister for Transport cum Senadin assemblyman Datuk Seri Lee Kim Shin today.
Lee was met after visiting the project site, accompanied by Miri Charitable Trust Board chairman Temenggong Yong Vui Seng.
The facilities will have cremator and cremation facilities such as two new modern furnaces and columbarium.
“Furnaces that are going to be installed in the facilities are imported from China which are in compliance with Sarawak Department of Environment (DOE)’s requirement,” Lee disclosed.
For the project funding, the Miri Charitable Trust Board, a body that in charge of the Lambir Chinese cemetery, recently received the first installment of aid from the Sarawak government via Unit for Other Religions (UNIFOR) amounting to RM450,000.
The Board has also submitted for the second installment of financial aid for the project for the year 2024.
Presently, there is only one crematorium facility in the city, that is Riam crematorium.
