KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia has reported a record-high number of new daily Covid-19 cases with 3,027, bringing the total number of positive cases in the country to date to 128,465.
Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said meanwhile, 2,145 patients had recovered in the last 24 hours, bringing the cumulative number of cured cases to 102,723.
“Of the total number of new cases, 3,021 are local transmissions, while six are imports. The total number of active Covid-19 cases is 25,221,” he said via his official Twitter account today.
In his statement today, Dr Noor Hisham said Johor reported the highest number of new cases with 1,103, with 1,043 of them detected from clusters and screenings done on close contacts of Covid-19 patients.
Selangor recorded the second-most number of cases with 706, while Sabah had 493.
A total of 63 cases reported today were related to clusters in lockups, immigration detention depots, and prisons.
“This involves the Jalan Harapan Prison Cluster (35 cases), Damai Pelangi Cluster (16), Tembok Gajah Cluster (four), Tembok Choh Cluster (four), Tembok Mempaga Cluster (three), and Pagar Siput Cluster (one),” he said, adding that there were 142 cases currently being treated in the intensive care unit (ICU) with 63 requiring respiratory assistance.
Meanwhile, Dr Noor Hisham said eight deaths including that of a foreigner were reported today, involving four women and four men, aged between 38 and 83, bringing the cumulative number of deaths in the country due to the pandemic to 521, or 0.41 per cent of the total number of cases.
Three deaths were reported in Selangor, with one each in Kuala Lumpur, Putrajaya, Penang, Sabah and Negeri Sembilan. – Bernama
