KUCHING: The travel time from Dalat to Sibu will take only an hour in the near future following the proposed development of a new road to enhance connectivity between the two areas.

Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg said he has agreed and provided allocation for the construction of the road.

“We will connect Dalat through a new route which will reach Batang Igan, Bawang Assan and Sibu.

“I have allocated funds to develop this new road under the Public Works Department (PWD). Once completed, the journey from Dalat to Sibu will take only one hour,” he said when officiating at the earth-breaking ceremony for Dalat Boutique Hotel and the opening of Dalat Welfare Complex (KKD) in Mukah today (May 25).

Abang Johari estimated that the project would take approximately three years to complete.

“At the same time, we will also improve the water supply infrastructure where we have increased the water supply in Kuala Rajang from Sibu and approved allocations to enhance the water distribution to Sibu.”

He added that the new pipeline would be connected right up to Dalat and Mukah to ensure there is continuous water supply to those areas.
