SIBU: A new Sarawakku Sayang Special Assistance (BKSS) package to extend the discounts on electricity and water bills will be announced soon, says Datuk Seri Dr Sim Kui Hian.

The deputy premier said the extension would continue the discounts offered under BKSS 8.0 which ended on June 30, in view of the rising cost of living.

“Our Premier (Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg) will announce a new BKSS package for the cost of living including electricity and so on,” he revealed.

He said this when met at the sidelines during his visit to the site of the Taman Selera Muhibbah reconstruction here yesterday.

He said the matter has been discussed with Abang Johari who is expected to announce the good news.

The electricity and water bills discounts were among the seven measures of the previous BKSS 8.0 announced by Abang Johari.

The initiative provides a five to 25 per cent discount on monthly electric bills of domestic households and of commercial and industrial users for the first six months of 2022.

He said this electricity discount will benefit 647,000 users, including those from the commercial and industrial sectors state-wide, borne by the state government to the tune of RM166.8 million.

Discounts of 10 to 25 per cent – costing the state government RM24 million – will also be given to monthly water bills during the same period, benefitting, in particular, 647,000 households, he said.
