KUCHING: New First Infantry Division Commander Mej Jen Dato Md Din Haji Abu today paid a courtesy call on Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas at his office.
Md Din, 58, took over from former commander Mej Jen Toh Choon Siang early last month.
Come June 1, he will have served the military for 40 years.
Originating from Alor Gajah in Malacca, Md Din is married with two daughters.
Earlier on, a delegation from the Malaysia Ex-Police Association of Sarawak led by their chairman DSP(Rtd) Samson Micheal Juan also called on Uggah.
The association had sought the Deputy Chief Minister’s assistance to have all the names of policemen and Border Scouts killed in action during the communist threat in Sarawak listed in the Heroes Memorial Park Plaque at Jalan Budaya.
Sarawak Tourism Federation Heritage Development Committee chairman Datuk Lim Kian Hock had agreed to their request for the listing.
The committee is overseeing the memorial park.
Uggah later presented a RM10,000 grant for the association to Samson.
