A NEW hospital is needed in Lundu to address overcrowding as well as outdated equipment in the current Lundu Hospital, says Tanjong Datu assemblyman Azizul Annuar Adenan.
He and Opar assemblyman Billy Sujang hope that both the Sarawak and federal governments will consider building Lundu Hospital at a designated site.
“This would involve allocating funds and initiating construction. The hospital currently faces overcrowding, outdated equipment and a lack of facilities.
“I hope we can adopt a similar approach to the development of cancer centres, which have been funded through state government seed funds.
“This new hospital would greatly improve convenience and comfort for the people in Lundu District,” he said when debating in support of the Supply Bill 2025 here, Thursday (Nov 14).
Meanwhile, he also called for a centralised Islamic cemetery for the district to cover all three zones: Sampadi, Lundu and Sematan.
Currently, there are two Islamic cemeteries in Lundu—Mungguk Along in Kg Seketi and Tanah Perkuburan Stunggang near the Pan Borneo Highway—both of which are reaching capacity.
Similarly, he said the cemetery in the Sampadi zone requires crossing private land, and its riverside location means it is increasingly eroded.
“I hope the government, especially JAIS (Sarawak Islamic Religious Department) and the Land and Survey Department, will identify available land and work with LAKIL (Lundu Islamic Welfare Trust Board) to establish a centralised cemetery for these three zones,” he urged.
