ASAJAYA: The construction of the new Kampung Tambirat market will commence soon, says Asajaya assemblyman Datuk Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah.
The Tourism, Arts and Culture Minister hoped that the new market would draw visitors, much like the popular weekend border market in Serikin near Bau.
“It is our vision because this area is near and not far for visitors to come to Tambirat from Kuching.
“If more visitors come, it will further increase the economic activities of residents of Kampung Tambirat,” he said after officiating at the Asajaya District community policing programme at SMK Hajah Laila Taib Hall today.
He added that tenders related to the project were in place, including the Tambirat waterfront project.
“Tambirat waterfront will become a main tourist attraction as it is also the site where youths can gather.
“I want it to be a place for youths to do their weekend activities such as skateboarding, concerts and so on.”
On the Asajaya expressway, which is one of the roads given priority by the Sarawak government, Abdul Karim hoped that the expressway could be completed immediately.
“I want it to be completed immediately apart from upgrading the existing roads.”
As for the Beliong Ferry Terminal, he explained that allocation for the project was in place and the contractor had also been identified.
“It will be built soon. The project was supposed to have been built at the end of last year but it was delayed due to some problems, including Covid-19.
“This project will continue to be implemented and before the end of this year, the ramp will be at the project site,” the Samarahan Integrated Regional Development Agency chairman added.
