KAPIT: Federal Home Affairs Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail announced the construction of the new Kapit District Police Headquarters (IPD), estimated to cost around RM150mil.
He said the proposed location for the new IPD is approximately 4km away from the existing IPD, and the Home Affairs Ministry (KDN) has submitted a request to the Sarawak government.
“I hope that land-related matters can be resolved promptly to facilitate the timely construction of the new IPD according to the planned schedule.”
Saifuddin made these remarks while inspecting the implementation of the Special Task Force Operation Programme (PPK) at Rh Rantai, Nanga Semunte here on Monday (Nov 20).
During the programme, he also distributed identification cards and birth certificates to five recipients from the Kapit area.
Regarding PPK, he said that it was an idea that emerged during his meeting with Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg around July of this year.
On the issue of citizenship applications made through PPK, he clarified that the notion that applicants can easily obtain citizenship is inaccurate, as it involves a rigorous screening process in accordance with existing laws.
He also expressed hope that the public would recognise the importance of promptly registering the birth of their children to avoid complications in matters such as school enrolment, hospital treatment, and other facilities, including targeted government subsidy programmes.
Prior to this, Saifuddin also conducted a working visit to the Kapit District Police Headquarters and would attend the PPK programme at Rh Garing, Song.
Accompanying the minister on the working visit were federal Works Minister Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi, Deputy Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Sabah, Sarawak and Special Functions) Datuk Wilson Ugak Kumbong, Deputy Minister in the Sarawak Premier’s Department Datuk Jefferson Jamit Unyat, Pelagus assemblyman Wilson Nyabong Ijang, KDN chief secretary Datuk Ruji Ubi and Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Razarudin Husain.
