KAPIT: Deputy Minister of Rural and Regional Development, Datuk Alexander Nanta Linggi announced to construction of an additional classroom block for KEMAS kindergarten at Rumah Midin Saong, Sungai Pelajau at Jalan Bukit Goram here to accommodate the increasing number of kindergarten children.

At present Sungai Pelajau has three KEMAS kindergarten classes with 75 pupils.

“The construction of an additional classroom block will help to meet the increasing number of kindergarten children. I hope KEMAS will liaise with the Public Works Department (PWD) to carry out the estimate for the cost of the building,” said Nanta while officiating at the closing of a workshop for parents under Kapit parliamentary constituency at Rumah Midin Saong, Sungai Pelajau, Jalan Bukit Goram here last weekend organised by the Community Development Office (KEMAS).

Nanta also lauded KEMAS for organising the workshop which focused on how parents can help their children in their education.

He explained that the workshop started since 2006 under KEMAS (Community Development Department) which focuses on three activities namely curricular and supervision, management and nutrition.

Nanta explained that KEMAS is under the Ministry of Rural and Regional Development and it is an outreach department to develop the community.

Among the activities are to provide pre-schools at rural longhouses and adult literacy programme.

Among those present were Bukit Goram Assemblyman Jefferson Jamit Unyat, Political Secretary to the Chief Minister, Tapah Ata, Kapit Resident Joseph Belayong, Kapit District Officer Elvis Didit, Assistant Director KEMAS Sarawak Joseft Unsung on behalf of the KEMAS Director Sarawak, KEMAS officer Kapit Leena Tero, Penghulu Pasang Tuba, Penghulu Madang Jelani, heads of departments and local community leaders.
