KUCHING: The new KPJ Kuching Specialist Hospital (KPJ Kuching) located in BDC will start operating by the first quarter of 2020, said its executive director Roslan Ahmad.
“We want to be one of Kuching’s best healthcare providers,” he said after Local Government and Housing Minister Datuk Seri Dr Sim Kui Hian flagged off the 3km and 7km run of the KPJ Cancer Awareness Bubble Rush 2019 yesterday morning.
According to him, the eight-storey hospital is almost completed and will be able to accommodate 150 beds.
“However, when the hospital is open, half of the facilities will be operating. We are also offering complete comprehensive facilities as well as a bunker for cancer treatment purposes.
“Car parks are important as well because at our existing hospital, parking space is quite limited,” he said.
He added that KPJ will be venturing into medical tourism as some of their patients are from neighbouring countries.
At the same time, he emphasised that the hospital’s upmost importance is the wellbeing of the local community.
“We are in the midst of figuring out what to do with the old KPJ Kuching building. There are a few proposals to convert it into something else such as a senior living care centre, a confinement home for mothers or a rehab centre,” he said.
