KUCHING: A China-based company LONGi Green Energy Technology Co will employ a total of 4,100 workers with its new development of another factory in the Samajaya Free Industrial Zone here.
LONGi Kuching chief executive officer Ngieng Sii Jing said that currently, 90 percent of the company’s 3,800 employees were Sarawakians.
With the new factory, the world’s largest maker of solar-grade monocrystalline silicon products seeks to invest more on local creative talents to fill up the job vacancies.
“By setting up another factory in Kuching, LONGi can help to elevate the community’s living standard by creating opportunities for job seekers,” he added.
On another note, Ngieng said the company is expecting to boost its total investment to over RM2 billion.
“The current total investment has reached RM1.5 billion and we are targeting to spend RM500 million at the end of this year,” he announced.
According to LONGi Group 2018 annual report, it was reported that the overseas shipments of monocrystalline silicon wafer had increased 59 percent from 2017.
As the first vertical integrated monocrystalline solar manufacturing base in one location, LONGi Kuching currently owns seven plants that produce monocrystalline ingots, wafers, cells and module.
Its solar panels have experienced exponential growth due to high global demand; the company exports mainly to the US, Vietnam and Taiwan.
