KUCHING: Datuk Seri Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar has described the proposal by Barisan Nasional (BN) deputy chairman Mohamad Hasan to have a new Malaysia Agreement, as calling for a dissolution of Malaysia.

“This is nonsense,” said the Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Parliament and Law) after handing over 66 sacrificial cows for Santubong parliamentary constituency in conjunction with the Hari Raya Aidiladha celebration at the Agriculture Department Livestock Quarantine Station at Jalan Bako today.

Wan Junaidi, who is also Santubong MP, said Malaysia was formed through the formulation of the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63).

He therefore urged those who called for a new Malaysia Agreement to be logical instead.

“Imagine in a family,  there is a fight between siblings, and then they request their parents to divorce. This is not right, right?,” he said.

All rights of Sabah and Sarawak are enshrined in the constitutional instruments, he reminded.

“The constitutional documents consist of four documents including the Cobbold Commission Report and Inter-governmental Committee (IGC) Report, and the Federal Constitution.

“If the country’s leaders still require further clarity on the rights back then, most of the state leaders would say refer to the Malaysia Solidarity Consultative Committee Report.

“It is all stated inside the documents, on what Sarawak wants. Therefore, these documents can serve as reference,” he said.

He added that the late Pehin Sri Adenan Satem and the present Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg have been fighting for Sarawak rights to be returned.

“This is why what Sarawak is doing is the best. We look into the rights of Sarawak that are mentioned in the documents. This showed how much Sarawakian leaders know,” he said.

Earlier, it was reported that Mohamad Hasan had suggested a new Malaysia Agreement as a more concrete way forward in realising Sabah’s rights and demands instead of the 1963 agreement that led to the formation of Malaysia.
