KUCHING: The newly appointed Kuching South City Council (MBK) Mayor Datuk Wee Hong Seng said yesterday he aspired to live up to the expectations of the people of the city instead of attending to “minor issues related to politics”.
“I think the people of Kuching are expecting better facilities and improvement in the city,” he told reporters at the flagging off of the inaugural Unicorn Run at MBKS here yesterday.
Wee added he would rather focus on his duty as the new MBKS Mayor instead of politics.
During a press conference on a minor reshuffle of the State Cabinet last month, Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg announced Wee’s appointment as the MBKS Mayor.
Local Government and Housing Minister Datuk Dr SimKui Hian, who was also at Wee’s conference later told reporters, “Datuk Wee Hong Seng is a SUPP member. His appointment as mayor is not so much about the post going back to SUPP.
“We want to select the best person to do the job. It is good that SUPP has many members to choose from and thus, it is important we choose the right person for the job.”
Wee is expected to be officially sworn in as the new MBKS mayor tomorrow.
