MARUDI: A modern longhouse has emerged in the Puyut Nibung region, replacing the old wooden structure that once housed the residents of Rumah Michael Biggol.

Deputy Minister in the Premier’s Department (Labour, Immigration, and Project Monitoring), Datuk Gerawat Gala, recently presided over the opening of this new longhouse.

The Mulu assemblyman reflected on his visit to the former longhouse in 2016, shortly after assuming his role as the representative for the Mulu constituency. He emphasized the remarkable progress made since then.

“The residents united to construct this contemporary longhouse, displaying patience and cooperation throughout the endeavor to ensure it aligns with modern requirements,” he remarked.

He also mentioned that his office extended support by aiding in land preparation and procuring materials, crucial steps given the escalating construction expenses.

Situated in the Marudi District, Rumah Michael Biggol is furnished with essential amenities, including electricity and water supply.

Among the attendees were village chief Micheal Bigol and Iban community leader in the Marudi area, Pemanca Randie Bundan.
