LIMBANG: Residents of Taman Damai, including those in its vicinity, will soon get a new mosque.
Bukit Kota assemblyman Datuk Dr Abdul Rahman Ismail said that once the project is completed, it will benefit at least 200 residents in the area.
“The Sarawak Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) government aims to prioritise fundamental facilities like places of worship, multipurpose halls, and road infrastructure. Thus, the state government continues to allocate funds for the Rural Transformation Project (RTP).
“This initiative by the late and former Chief Minister Pehin Sri Adenan Satem and continued under the leadership of Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg allocates RM5 million annually to each State Legislative Assembly (DUN) area for small-scale projects, including the construction of this mosque,” he told reporters after inspecting several RTP sites in Bukit Kota constituency yesterday (Dec 12).
Dr Abdul Rahman, who is also the Deputy Minister of Food Industry, Commodity, and Regional Development, said apart from the surau, residents in Taman Damai are also requesting the development of a multipurpose hall.
“Considering the nearly 60 villages and settlements within my constituency, we will assure that applications for such facilities will be looked into.
“I anticipate that by the end 2025, nearly all villages and settlements in Bukit Kota will be equipped with similar facilities,” he said.
Earlier, Dr Abdul Rahman’s visit was to look into the progress and execution of the RTP project as well as to identify any challenges faced by contractors, particularly in Limbang district.
