KUCHING: The newly built Pantai Damai Health Clinic will provide better healthcare services to residents in Bandar Baru Samariang and surrounding areas.

The new clinic building started operating on Jan 2, replacing the old clinic building, for the comfort of patients.

Deputy Minister for Utility and Telecommunication Datuk Dr Abdul Rahman Junaidi said the old clinic was quite small and had received many complaints from staff who said they needed a more spacious and comfortable place to work.

He said there is no denying that the old clinic is quite crowded and uncomfortable not only for the staff on duty but also for the public in need of dire healthcare services.

“So, I have discussed with the State Health Department director together, the department’s staff and the Kuching Divisional Health Office to see if we can relocate the clinic.

“Thankfully, with good cooperation from all parties, including developers in this area, we were able to provide a building for the clinic that is more spacious and comfortable,” he said when met by reporters after officiating at the opening of the new clinic here today (Jan 11).

The clinic is located in the middle of a housing estate, making it easier for patients to seek treatment.

Dr Abdul Rahman noted that most of the residents in the area are among the B40 group who needs good health clinic services.

“Among the services provided are the same as those in other clinics, especially in terms of basic health facilities for those suffering from coughs, colds, minor injuries, asthma, high blood pressure and diabetes.

“The services also include treatment for expectant mothers, after childbirth and also for newborn babies,” he said.

In a related matter, the Pantai Damai assemblyman said his service centre is also ready and will provide assistance with basic facilities to the clinic.

“My service centre will also provide assistance to the clinic such as chairs, benches, new tables and basic health check-up tools to ensure that staff can carry out their duties comfortably.

“We also call on corporate bodies or private individuals out there who wish to donate medical equipment to health institutions to donate to the Pantai Damai Health clinic,” he added.
