The French fair Paris Photo is partnering with the Association of International Photography Art Dealers (AIPAD) to launch a new photography fair, titled Paris Photo New York.
The event will be replacing the annual Photography Show, which was inaugurated by AIPAD in 1979. It will be organised by Florence Bourgeois and Christoph Wiesner, who are respectively the director and artistic director of Paris Photo.
The inaugural edition of Paris Photo New York will be held from April 2 to 5, 2020, at Pier 94 on the Hudson River in Manhattan — a location that was traditionally the home of the Photography Show.
“We are very excited to create a bridge connecting Paris and New York. The enthusiasm of many of our long-time exhibitors and our network of collectors and curators is indicative of strong potential for Paris Photo New York, to establish itself successfully in the American market,” said Bourgeois and Wiesner in a joint statement.
This is not the first time that Paris Photo, which is billed as the largest international art fair dedicated to the photographic medium, tries to expand in North America.
It launched its first American sister fair in Los Angeles in 2013, but canceled the event two months before its fourth installment in 2016. At the time, organiser Reed Exhibitions France stated that Paris Photo Los Angeles failed to attract enough sales.
The next edition of Paris Photo will be held from November 7 to 10 at the historic Grand Palais in Paris, followed by the launch of Paris Photo New York next spring.
The fair brings together up to 200 exhibitors from across the world, offering collectors and enthusiasts a variety of photographic projects. – Relaxnews
