KUCHING: Sarawak police are expected to organise more crime prevention programmes to ensure and maintain the state’s safety and harmony.
“Every district police chief should be alert as well as conduct more research on organising crime prevention programmes to make sure that they are effective for the public,” said new Commissioner of Police Datuk Aidi Ismail.
He added that district police chiefs could also refer to crime prevention programmes in other countries to further enhance the local programmes currently in place.
He stressed two other main focus points which would be implemented during a welcoming parade at the Sarawak Contingent Police Headquarters here yesterday.
To ensure safety and peace in the state, Aidi stated that eradication of crimes such as gambling, drugs, syndicates and others must be implemented.
He reminded all departments, officers and staff to play their roles and get quality information, especially on gambling and drug activities.
“As we all know, substance abuse has a negative impact on youths.
“Therefore, I hope that Sarawak police will unite to stop this menace once and for all, to ensure that the state is free from any drug problem,” he said.
He stressed that all members of the Sarawak police force should also increase their service quality and integrity.
“In addition, everyone in the Sarawak police contingent should also have a high-level of discipline and to always obey their superior officers’ orders without questioning the tasks given.
“All staff should also fix their image and the team’s image as a law enforcement agency, as well as having the sense of teamwork with their comrades.
“To further strengthen the bond with the people, community policing must be held from time to time and each district police chief must ensure that it is held in their respective districts. Such policing will help to fix the police’s image in the eyes of the community,” Aidi added.
