SELANGAU: The construction of a road linking Sekuau to Ulu Oya, Ulu Pakoh, and extending to Kanowit is deemed essential to facilitate the development of the respective areas.
Selangau MP Edwin Banta said the construction of this road must be accompanied by crucial provisions such as electricity and clean water supply.
“This matter has been raised with the Mid Rajang Regional Development Agency which will develop four constituency areas in the Rascom area, namely Tamin, Kakus, Ngemah, and Machan.
“The Sarawak government allocation announced by Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg amounting to RM1.5 million has been approved.
“Soon, we will be drafting a plan and will bring together all community leaders, longhouse chiefs, and government officials from the respective areas to collectively discuss the ideas and development plans to be implemented,” he said.
He said this at the Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM) Appreciation Ceremony in conjunction with the Golden Jubilee of the Rascom Scheme, at Dewan Penghulu Balang, last night (Mar 10).
Edwin added that he had also discussed with the Land Custody and Development Board (LCDA) their interest in bringing in a company to develop sugarcane plantations and build a sugar factory in this area, but it did not materialise.
“I don’t know the reason why, I have yet to discuss with the community leaders and tribal chiefs to find out the cause of this plan not materialising.
“If this plan can be materialised, it can ensure the continuous progress of this area. Please give a chance to this idea,” he said.
Edwin also said that the service and sacrifices of the security forces, particularly the police, who fought during the communist insurgency in the 1970s, are highly valued.
“Hence, tonight’s event is held to commemorate their struggle in combating the communist terrorists and in conjunction with the 50th Golden Jubilee of the Rascom Scheme,” he said.
The event was also attended by Sarawak Police Commissioner Datuk Mancha Ata, Dalat District Police Chief DSP Saga Chungat and organising chairman Henry Kanyan Vincent Rawing.
