KOTA SAMARAHAN: A new Chinese school will be built in Kota Samarahan, said state Pakatan Harapan (PH) chairman Chong Chieng Jen.
He was pleased over the expedited relocation approval process of the school which only took six months.
Sekolah Jenis Kebangsaan Cina (SJKC) Kai Nang, previously situated in Sibu, is now being relocated to Kota Samarahan.
“Previously, the school in Sibu had faced recruitment problem due to competition from two other Chinese schools which resulted in the school having only 38 students.
“Because of that, the board of management decided to relocate the school to a more populated location,” said Chong, adding that the new location is slowly developing where the increase in population is expected to occur.
He revealed that the land was given for free by the developer to the school’s board of management.
“Based on the existing demand for Chinese school in the area, the new school will not face shortage of students.
“There is excess application for next year’s Primary One session from nearby schools due to limited spaces. That itself is already evident that there is a demand for Chinese schools.”
Chong told that the school would be built in two phases and would accommodate 2,000 students across its 10 acres of land.
On the school building, he had called upon the state government to expedite the approval of the building.
It is understood that the Education Ministry has approved a sum of RM2 million to start the construction this year and it is pending approval and displacement by the Finance Ministry.
