PETALING JAYA: Frasers Group Asia, the owner of Sports Direct retail stores, has announced plans for further growth in Malaysia throughout 2024, including expansion into Southeast Asia, starting with Indonesia.

In a statement, the company said that new stores would be opening by the end of 2024 at Sunshine Mall Penang, Bintang Mall Miri, Aeon Nilai, Aeon Kota Bahru, and Mayang Mall Terengganu. Additionally, two flagship Sports Direct stores are slated to open at Mid Valley Mega Mall and Sunway Pyramid in late 2024.

“Sports Direct’s expansion in Kuala Lumpur marks the Group’s commitment to bringing the best brands in sports retail to Malaysia.

“This includes offering customers more brands from the Group’s portfolio, including USC, which is a dedicated area within Sports Direct to shop the most iconic premium and lifestyle brands,” it said.

Regarding regional expansion, it announced a new joint venture with Indonesia-based sports, leisure, and kids’ retailer PT Map Active. The collaboration has already resulted in the opening of two sports superstores in central Jakarta in the first quarter of 2024.
