KOTA PADAWAN: The street lighting project along the road Kota Padawan roundabout all the way through the Puncak Borneo Prison is now ready, Padawan Municipal Council (MPP) announced last night (Sept 4).

The  RM980,000 project of 150 units of 120W LED streetlights took seven months to complete and is aimed at improving public safety and road visibility.

MPP chairman Tan Kai said by using lower LED lights that provide higher illumination, the street lighting is proof of how modern lighting can enhance overall lighting quality while conserving energy.

“The installation of the LED streetlights in this area is funded by Public Works Department (PWD) and implemented by SESCO which forms part of its assessment on energy and consumption reduction and improve energy efficiency.

“This pilot project aligns with the MPP’s commitment under the Green City Action Plan (GCAP) to promote energy efficiency, including the use of energy-saving lighting such as LED streetlights,” he said at a press conference after visiting the LED traffic installation project from Kota Padawan roundabout to Puncak Borneo Prison here.

Additionally, he said by utilising the latest LED technology, MPP aims to provide better illumination with reduced energy consumption, contributing to its goals of cutting the MPP’s carbon footprint and reducing greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions.

“I hope that the LED lights will prove to be highly energy efficient, cost-effective and environmental friendly.

“As a pilot project, the findings from this project will provide valuable insights for future upgrades to the MPP’s lighting infrastructure,” he said adding that in addition to energy savings, LED lights offer the advantages of the emitting less heat, being durable and stable, and provide superior illumination.

“This initiative reflects the council’s commitment to improve local infrastructure for the safety and convenience of residents,” he said.
