KUCHING: Bung Bratak Heritage Centre has a new trail — Heritage Trail Two — as its latest feature leading to the summit of the Bung Bratak.

Bung Bratak Heritage Association chairman Datuk Peter Minos said the new trail was the second after the one connecting the centre to Kampung Tembawang Sauh.

With the new trail, he hoped it would be able to attract more visitors to Bung Bratak and enjoy the journey to the summit.

“The locals call the Bung Bratak summit ‘Robuh Guru’ which was once used by the people for training in defending the mountain,” he said in a statement today (Jul 12).

He further said that the area on the summit was the size of a football field which is suitable for camping and other outdoor activities.

“This will be a highly popular spot at Bung Bratak once it is fully developed. When we have the fund, we will build a 30-foot-high ‘Baruk’ (ceremonial roundhouse) at the summit,” he said.

He added that the mountain scenery from the summit was simply fantastic, where Mount Singai, Mount Serapi and part of Kuching city could be seen clearly in good weather.

On visitors, he said the centre was visited by many nature lovers last weekend with everyone walking up for half an hour instead of driving.

“By next month, it is expected that at least 1,000 people will visit and trek up to Bung Bratak on weekends.

“It is getting very popular because, as the visitors said, Bung Bratak is the best hill spot around to improve our lungs and hearts after the Covid-19 crisis,” he said.
