KUCHING: The new Masjid Darul Rahman at Kampung Pasir Pandak is expected to be built in the second quarter of next year, said Assistant Minister in the Chief Minister’s Department (Islamic Affairs and DBKU) Datuk Dr Abdul Rahman Junaidi.
According to him, apart from being dilapidated (over 50 years old), the existing mosque is also no longer able to accommodate the growing number of worshipers.
“This mosque not only accommodates worshipers from Kampung Pasir Pandak but also from Kampung Pasir Panjang and the surrounding housing estates.
“With the completion of the new mosque, which will be built on a 1.1-acre endowment (wakaf) land, it is able to accommodate 1,000 worshipers at a time,” said Dr Abdul Rahman, who is also the Assistant Minister of Utilities (Water Supply) after a meeting with Kampung Pasir Pandak village security and development committee (JKKK) and Masjid Darul Rahman management committee here, on Monday (Nov 23).
Also present was Sarawak Islamic Affairs Department director Ustaz Khalidi Ibrahim.
