KAPIT: The Youth Wing members of Kapit Foochow Association held a New Year’s Countdown gathering at a foodcourt here on Dec 31 to welcome New Year 2019.
It was a gathering for all sections of the association namely the main body, Women and Youth Wings.
Speaking at the event, association chairman, Sii Bang Ee lauded the Youth Wing for its initiative to organise the activity for all association members.
“This might be a simple gathering but it is indeed a meaningful one because it serves as a platform to gather the members to foster closer rapport and fellowship among them.
“2018 was a very fruitful year for Kapit Foochow Association where many activities were successfully organised with the main event being its 90th anniversary celebration on Aug 18.
“This was followed by the opening of the Foochow Association Multi-Purpose Hall at Jalan Selirik during the Mid-Autumn Festival. We also presented red packets to the elders who were 70 years old and above,” Sii said.
All these activities were carried out successfully because of the close co-operation and teamwork among all the sections in the association, he pointed out.
“We come together to work for the benefit of the association,” he said.
He took the opportunity to thank Kapit MP Datuk Alexander Nanta Linggi for allocating a government grant of RM500,000 to construct the multi-purpose hall of the association. He also thanked Goram state assemblyman Jefferson Jamit Unyat for allocating under his Rural Transformation Project a grant of RM100,000 meant for cementing the carpark and also the storm drain as counter measure to flash floods along Jalan Selirik.
Also present at the gathering were its deputy chairman Kapitan Yiap Yii Hoo, youth chief Ting King Yiing, women chief Anita Wong, secretary Councillor David Wong, treasurer Councillor Jenny Yii as well as association advisors Chu Tung King and James Chieng.
