Latest looks for the Lunar New Year
As Chinese New Year approaches, with its first day on February 10, many of those celebrating were seen shopping at malls last weekend for their new outfits.
There were also text messages from our friends telling us to “Fast fast go otherwise no more sizes liaw!”
Fortunately, there are other options, like online shopping, or if you have a designer in mind, you can still get your sizes customised.
We spoke with two designers in Kuala Lumpur about their designs for the upcoming festive celebration.
Jimmy Lim from Kuala Lumpur and Moses Law were more than willing to talk about some of the trendy designs they had made. One makes clothing that can be reworn after the festive season. The other one is exceptionally show-stopping, so it all comes down to personal preference.
JIMMY LIM label DNA
Jimmy, an award-winning fashion designer, is known as one of Malaysia’s and New Zealand’s star designers. He received the prestigious title of Deutz Fashion Design Ambassador of the Year at Air New Zealand Fashion Week 2004 and represented the country as Ambassador at London Fashion Week 2006. In 2017, Jimmy received a showcase invitation for Busan Fashion Week. He received the title of Decades of Excellence at the Kuala Lumpur Fashion Week Awards 2021. Last year also marked his 12th appearance at Kuala Lumpur Fashion Week.
JIMMY LIM label DNA has always focused on wearability and sustainability, like a building block for your current wardrobe.
“For the festive season, we usually re-cut our famous models, such as the signature dress featured here. (See images for the original and 2.0 versions of the red dress.) This festive season, we chose a beautiful red Lycra with a special application of gold sheen to create a more joyous and prosperous vibe. Best of all, it will not be a one-time wear; you can wear it after the festive season as well!” he said.
Jimmy’s next outfit choice is the No 8 top, symbolises luck and prosperity, and he wants to incorporate this design as a fun piece for the festive season.
The garment is made of a great number of metallic threads that have been weaved together to form this unique design. It can be regarded as an accessory top, as the wearer does not require additional accessories. It’s a great fashion piece because you can wear it over a plain dress or beneath a jacket to really spice up your look! Visit www.jimmylim.com for more details.
TANGOO
Moses Law, from Sibu, Sarawak and Eric Leong, from Kuala Lumpur, founded TANGOO in 2002 because of their love and passion for fashion. Their label continues to thrive today, with a boutique at 1 Utama Shopping Centre, Kuala Lumpur.
Colourful, fun, and very bohemian, their apparels and accessories made a statement wherever they appeared, as witnessed in several of their shows at major fashion events in Kuala Lumpur. Their next event is at MARISTAR on February 22, right before the end of Chinese New Year, which lasts 15 days beginning February 10.
Their signature for the upcoming festive season is so bright and cheerful that they will undoubtedly ward off any evil and bad luck.
As the Dragon enters this lunar year, TANGOO menswear is embroidered with the mythical creature and available in four colours: red, white, green, and black.
The pretty cheongsams, which may be paired with quirky accessories, also have the fiery dragon making a statement.
