KUCHING: The New York Medical Sdn Bhd opened its first clinic which features occupational health services and External Counterpulsation (ECP) treatment here yesterday.
Housing and Local Government Minister Datuk Dr Sim Kui Hian said the clinic is special because it is preparing for a 24-hour service soon and thereby will serve as an alternative to the Sarawak General Hospital (SGH).
“We are aware that locals have a hard time seeking medical services after working hours especially at night. Therefore, this clinic can serve as an alternative for locals to seek medical services instead of waiting in long queues at the hospital (SGH) which is meant to cater for emergency cases only,” he said in a press conference after launching the event at Jalan Simpang Tiga, here yesterday.
Dr Sim stated that apart from providing the general medical services to treat common cases such as cold, fever and cough, the clinic also features occupational health services and the ECP therapy.
The occupational health services focus on advocating and monitoring the workers about their occupational safety.
At the same time, the clinic is also equipped with one unit of Rejuva Heart ECP which is a non-invasive treatment for special patients.
According to Dr Sim, there are cases of people with cardiac problems like artery blockage and heart failure where surgery is not an option. So ECP acts as a therapy for these patients.
“The machine increases the blood flow in the organs. Hence, ECP helps to stimulate ‘jalan tikus’ (smaller paths) in the arteries so we can keep the body to function at its best and minimise health risks,” he said.
The Batu Kawah assemblyman expressed his happiness over the idea of general practitioners in being able to upscale medical services to the community.
Meanwhile, the directors of the company Dr Chew Kian Peng and Dr Kang Tzin Rong said the company has four departments with each focusing on wellness, occupational safety health, cardiac rehabilitation, and the general clinic.
“The company has started since 2017. With this clinic operating today (Feb 25), our team comprising 10 staff will be doing our best to provide health services,” Dr Chew said.
The guests were welcomed by a lion dance performance, followed by the ribbon-cutting ceremony and a tour at the clinic. They also had a free health screening on the same day.
Also present was Kuching South City Council (MBKS) Mayor Datuk James Chan Khay Syn.
