KUCHING: The newly completed Unit for Other Religions (UNIFOR) Complex at Jalan Ong Tiang Swee here symbolises the harmony of Sarawak’s people and reflects the unity in religious diversity within the state.

Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas highlighted that the UNIFOR complex is not just a building but a symbol of the unity strongly upheld by Sarawakians.

“UNIFOR also represents the policy of the Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS), which respects the unique cultural and religious diversity here.

“This complex is a symbol of our harmony in Sarawak. We’re all very proud of this building—‘this is our home.’ Use it to the fullest,” he said.

He said this in his speech during the handover ceremony of the occupation permit (OP) from Kuching South City Council (MBKS) to UNIFOR Trust Board at UNIFOR Complex here on Wednesday.

He said the OP handover ceremony marked a long-awaited, historic moment and a major milestone for the project, which took over 24 months to complete.

Uggah praised MBKS for their efforts to ensure the OP was obtained on time and appreciated the contributions of the consulting team and contractors who completed the complex successfully.

“This is an important landmark for all of us,” he added.

The UNIFOR Complex is located on 1.214 hectares of land and features various modern amenities, including a two-level meeting room, a banquet hall with a capacity for 1,000 people, commercial spaces, and a rooftop green space with eco-friendly features.

To ensure the complex remains functional and well-maintained, Uggah announced that UNIFOR’s chief executive officer John Kennedy would lead a special team responsible for the complex’s upkeep for the benefit of Sarawak’s community as a whole.

Also present were Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Dr. Sim Kui Hian, who is also a member of the UNIFOR Welfare Board of Trustees, Minister of Education, Innovation, and Talent Development Datuk Seri Roland Sagah Wee Inn, and MBKS Mayor Datuk Wee Hong Seng.
