Newly opened CARL serves as hub for collaboration

MIRI: Curtin University has opened its Curtin Aquaculture Research Laboratories (CARL) here.

Deputy Minister of Food Industry, Commodity and Regional Development Datuk Dr Abdul Rahman Ismail said that the CARL will serve as a hub for collaboration between academia, industry, and the government.

“The CARL is set to be a beacon of such an innovation, driving forward research that will enhance understanding and management of aquatic ecosystems.

“With the global demand for seafood and aquatic products continuing to rise, it is imperative that we harness the latest scientific and technological innovations to ensure sustainable and efficient production,” he said.

He said this when representing Minister of Food Industry, Commodity and Regional Development, Datuk Seri Dr Stephen Rundi Utom during the opening of CARL on today (June 29).

“By fostering partnerships with local and international researchers, aquaculture practitioners, and policymakers, CARL will facilitate the exchange of knowledge and best practices,” he said.

Also present were Minister of Transport Datuk Seri Lee Kim Shin, Deputy Minister of Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts Datuk Sebastian Ting, Investment and Trade Commissioner for ASEAN Bryce Green, Curtin University Vice Chancellor, Professor Harlene Hayne, and CARL director Professor Ravi Kumar Fotedar.
