BALEH: The ‘Ngabas Menua’ (Visit Hometown) programme, makes its return this year, serving as a platform to resolve local issues and strengthen ties with the communities in rural areas.
Organised by the Baleh Service Centre, the second edition of the programme was held from October 3 to 6, covering several longhouses along the Sungai Mujong area.
Baleh assemblyman Nicholas Kudi Jantai said the programme aims to assess the living conditions and understand the challenges faced by the longhouse residents in the area.
“Throughout this expedition, various activities were carried out to evaluate the condition of the longhouses and identify the challenges faced by the residents,” he said, noting that despite unpredictable weather conditions, including frequent rainfall in the Hulu Sungai Mujong area, all activities were successfully conducted.
He made these remarks during his recent visit to the longhouse communities along the expedition route.
The programme saw the participation of 45 individuals, including members of the Parti Rakyat Sarawak (PRS) Baleh Youth and Women’s wings, along with representatives from several government agencies.
They included representatives from the Bukit Mabong District Office, Sarawak Rivers Board, Department of Irrigation and Drainage, Kapit Fire and Rescue Department, as well as community leaders, Penghulus of the Merirai area, and local village chiefs.
The local residents expressed their appreciation for the programme, thanking the organisers for their attention and concern for their wellbeing.
