KAPIT: A ngelumbong ceremony for the late Tan Sri Datuk Amar Dr James Jemut Masing was held at his residence in Bukit Goram, Kapit on Wednesday (Feb 2).

During the ceremony, a short video was screened for his family and friends to watch that tells a bit about Masing’s life story.

The atmosphere was solemn and sorrowful as this was a farewell ceremony and the last tribute for the deceased with his family.

(Ngelumbong is a traditional Iban custom that accords the final respect to the dead and ‘frees’ the widow or spouse from the Iban adat of mourning and social bonds.)

The ritual was attended by Member of Parliament for Hulu Rajang Datuk Wilson Ugak Kumbong, Minister in the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs (KPDNHEP) Datuk Sri Alexander Nanta Linggi and Minister in the Chief Minister’s Department Datuk John Sikie Tayai.

Also present were Assistant Minister for Infrastructure and Port Development (Port Development) Datuk Majang Renggi; Assistant Minister for Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts Datuk Snowdan Lawan; Ngemah assemblymen Anyi Jana (Ngemah), Kennedy Chuk Pai (Murum) andDatuk Liwan Lagang (Belaga).

Meanwhile, a ngelumbong ceremony was also held to commemorate the late parents of Baleh assemblyman Nicholas Kudi at his residence in Jalan Selirik, Kapit.

The ceremony was held in moderation and was attended by several dignitaries and friends.
